Vang Vieng – A Tourist Paradise of Laos

Vang Vieng is a peaceful small town in northern Laos. It is more and more popular with visitors thanks to its picturesque natural sceneries, exciting activities and laid-back lifestyle. This following writing will introduce you to a dreamlike landscape of Vang Vieng.

It is known that Vang Vieng is home to a large number of beautiful caves. One of the best caves visitors must see is Tham Phu Kham. It is about 7km west from the centre of the town. Tourists will view a bronze reclining Buddha in the main cave after go through the small entrance. Beside the large Buddha statue, the cavern attracts travelers thanks to the bright lagoon at the bottom of the track to the cave. The name of “Phu Kham” in Laos also means “blue lagoon”. The water is so clear that visitors can see the school of fish. Some popular activities here are swimming, tubing, swinging on the rope, jumping right into the water from the next tree. Many small shops and restaurants nearby provide facilities and meals for visitors.

Another cave visitors should discover is Tham Chang or Tham Jang. Its name means “unable to move” since the cold water makes your legs nearly freezing. Both travelers and the locals consider this cavern as an ideal site to cool off in the hot weather of Laos because of its fresh air. Tham Chang includes stalactites and stalagnites in various shapes and sizes. It is said that if touching golden crab stalactites here, you will receive good luck. Other awesome caves suggested for tourists are Tham Nam, Elephant Cave, Snail Cave, etc.

Tourists will have more knowledge of mulberry when having a visit to Vang Vieng Organic Mulberry Farm. This farm uses strictly traditional methods to grow mulberry trees. They train villagers to use sustainable, natural methods, natural fertilizers to produce food and fiber. The high quality mulberry leaves are hand picked each morning and used in silk and tea production. Beside silk and tea products, mulberry wine are very well-known and worth trying.

Besides, there are some sacred temples such as Wat Si Vieng Song, Wat Si Suman, Wat Kang. Western peaceful villages along Nam Song River are usually visited by tourists’ biking trips. Furthermore, the limestone mountains of the town are not only great for the formation of wonderful caves, but a large number of cliffs for rock climbing as well. What is better than sitting on a boat drifting downstream on the Nam Song River and take a sightseeing charming sceneries. Moreover, viewing surrounding landscape by hot air balloons is one of highlight of Vang Vieng.
