In the morning, you will depart your trip from Huay Xai- which lies on the banks of the Mekong river and forms the border to Thailand.
 
Continue take a road transfer east to Luang Namtha -the largest city in Luang Nam Tha Province, Northern Laos. En-route, make a stop to visit Muang Phouka village before reaching LuangNamtha in the late afternoon.
 
Luang Namtha is the largest settlement in northwest Laos, north of Luang Prabang. It lies on the banks of the Nam Tha river. It is a popular tourist destination, and a base for treks, biking to the surrounding hilltribe villages.
 
Overnight in Luang Namtha.

In this morning, you will depart for Nam Ha National Park. This is an area of outstanding beauty, breathtaking mountain views, and cultural interest of ASEAN Heritage parks. Start your trip by climbing to Phoumpok Stupa to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the town. Then, you will continue transfer into the jungle. Here, you have chance to explore a variety of plants which are used as medicines and foods.
 
In the jungle, you will have a lunch with some local Akha delicacies. After a delicious lunch, you will head off Ban Nammutmai-where you have chance to learn more about traditional customs and way of living of the locals. Continue your trip to visit Ban Nam Jang village and Nam Tha market.
 
Then, turn back to Luang Namtha, take time to relax.

Continue your journey to Nong Khiaw in this morning. On the way, you will have time to enjoy spectacular landscape and visit some hill-tribes villages.
 
Nong Khiaw is a rustic little town on the bank of the Ou River in Laos. It is squeezed in between some of the most fantastic limestone mountains to be found north of Vang Vieng. 
 
The rest of the day is time for you to relax or take a short stroll on your own such as wandering along the river, walking through the local village or enjoying Beer Lao while watching sunset. Overnight in Nong Khiaw.

After your breakfast, you will be picked up for a cruise upstream on the Nam Ou River. En-route. Make a stop to visit village of Ban Sop Khing and Ban Sob Jaem and Muong Ngoi- where you will enjoy your lunch. Muang Ngoi is a gorgeous and sleepy town- one of the friendliest places in Laos. Spreading along the Nam Ou river, the beautiful tropical village with coconut palms and thatched cafes will be an interesting destination for eco-nature travelers.
 
Then, take a water transfer to turn back to Nong Khiaw. The rest of day is at your leisure.

Day 5: Nong Khiaw - Pak Ou Caves - Luang Prabang (B)

This morning you will transfer by road to Luang Prabang. En route, you will enjoy scenic view of the Nam Ou River- one of the most important rivers of Laos. It runs 448 km from Phongsaly Province to Luang Prabang Province.
 
On the way, you will make a stop to visit Pak Ou caves -  the “mouth” of the “Ou” River, a famous cave with hundreds of statuettes of Buddha. Overlooking the river, it shows a splendid view of the Mekong.
 
You will arrive in Luang Prabang around lunchtime. Check in to your hotel. The rest of day is your free time to relax or explore the city on your own. 
 
Luang Prabang is the capital city of Luang Prabang Province in north central Laos. It is exceptional for both its rich architectural and artistic heritage that reflects the fusion of Lao traditional urban architecture with that of the colonial era. The city is well known for its numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries.

You are recommended to get up early, around 5.30 to 6.30am to visit Vat Nong temple. Here, you will witness The Tak Bat ceremony ("Tak Bat" means giving alms to monks). In this ceremony, from the early morning Thai people go to the temple and bring food with them. They are filling monks’ bowl with food such as rice, soft drinks, cakes and so on… This ceremony happens in peaceful and respectful atmosphere. That’s why we recommend that you should wear decent clothing when watching the rituals or if you want to save this moment, you should take photos from a distance to show your respect.
 
Another choice that you could make is visiting a monk school in the city. This will be a great chance for those who are interested in monastery because you will have time to talk with young monks, learn about their daily life. 
 
After your breakfast, we visit the National Museum - where remains a collection of personal artifacts of the royal family, including photos, musical instruments…, you will start your city tour. IN this tour, you will visit some most famous temples of the city. Highlights include: 
Vat May- the largest and most richly decorated of the temples in Luang Prabang.
Vat Xieng Thong or Temple of the Royal City- one of the most important of Lao monasteries and remains a significant monument to the spirit of religion, royalty and traditional art.
Vat Visoun- the oldest and one of the most beautiful temples of Luang Prabang.
The last one you will visit in this morning is Arts and Ethnology Centre.
 
In the afternoon, you will Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek- the weaving and textile villages. Here, you will have time to explore traditional handicrafts, admire diverse and unique products made by skillful hands of artisan. After that, you will return to town to visit a monk school. To finish a long day, you will climb Mount Phousi to enjoy spectacular panoramic view of the city at sunset.

Day 7: Big Brother Mouse - Ban Phadaeng - Baci Ceremony (B,L)

Today, you will make a visit of Big brother Mouse . Big brother Mouse is a non-profit publishing project in Laos. It focuses on publishing books that improve literacy and quality of life; and on making those books accessible, particularly in rural Lao villages. You could choose some books to start your day of activities.
 
Then, depart your drive around 30 km to Ban Phadaeng and transfer directly to the Community Reading Room- a project to create a sustainable reading class and library in Phadaeng village. It is not serviced by other reading/book programs such as Big Brother Mouse or Luang Prabang Library’s Book Boat. Through this project, foreign visitors could teach English for primary children in the region.
 
In the late morning, you will have chance to join some fishing in the nearby river. Then, a lunch will be prepared by a local family, you could also help them to finish the lunch as well as learn more about traditional Laos food.
 
After your lunch, you will be taken by your guide and village coordinator to stroll around the village to explore further Lao’s culture. After that, return to the family house to take part in a traditional Baci Ceremony.
 
In the afternoon, turn back to LuangPrabang

Day 8: Luang Prabang – Pakse - WatPhou - 4000 Islands (B,L)

In the morning, you will transfer to the airport to get a flight to Pakse. When you arrive, your guide will meet and take you to the 4000 Islands by boat. On the way, you will make a stop to visit an ancient ruin of WatPhou- a ruined Khmer Hindu temple complex in southern Laos. It offers stunning views over the surrounding land and Mekong River. Wat Phu is considered one of the oldest archaeological sites in Laos. Like other notable Khmer architecture in Southeast Asia, it was constructed using sandstone, laterite and bricks. Wat Phu has been an active temple for Buddhist religious practice for quite some time because Buddhism replaced Hinduism in Laos in the mid 13th century. It will be an ideal place for those who are interested in history and archeology of Laos.
 
Then, continue your water transfer to 4000 Island. After reaching the island, take time to relax or explore the island on your own.

After your breakfast, you will visit Done Det and Done Khone- where you could explore the ruins of French railway tracks and the beautiful Liphi Waterfall.
 
In the afternoon, you will turn back to your hotel. On the way, you will have chance to spot rare Irrawaddy dolphins in the region. You could spend the rest of day to relax or discover the island on your own. Overnight in the 4000 Islands.

Visa:
You will require a visa to enter Laos. Your consultant will be happy to advise you on visa requirements.
 
Passport:
Please ensure that you have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining after your return date. You will also need at least one blank page for each of the countries you are visiting.
 
Booking Procedure:
Only once you are completely happy with any holiday itinerary we create for you will we ask for a payment. In order that we can secure availability for your booking we would typically require a deposit of 30%.
 
Money Exchange:
Laos’s currency is called the KIP, pronounced “kip”. 
Bills that represent Kip are broken down into 500; 1000; 2000; 5000; 10000; 20 000; 50, 000 and 100, 000 KIP denominations. Please be aware that the KIP is a non-convertible currency and cannot officially be exchanged abroad. The official exchange rate in Laos is around 8,000 Kip = 01 USD (as of July 2014).
Foreigner currencies such as US Dollars, Euros, Thai Baht, Australia Dollars…are popularly accepted in Laos to be exchanged in KIP and tourists are entitled to exchange easily money at the current market rate at the banks, airport or at any licensed moneychanger. The presentation of your passport is sometimes requested. Please ask your tour guide for assistance in case you need.
 
The official currency of Thailand is the Baht (THB).
The official currency of Cambodia is the Riel (KHR). 
Unofficially however, US currency (US$) runs the country and is the currency you should bring, mostly in cash - notes should be 2006 series onwards. Clean bills in small denominations are most useful. Notes should be 2006 series onwards. Torn, dirty or old notes, as well as the $2US note will be refused in most businesses. ATMs are available in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap and also dispense in both KHR and US$. 
 
The official currency of Vietnam is Dong (VND).
Some establishments will accept US currency (USD), but usually only for large purchases and in some restaurants and hotels that cater to tourists. It's not possible to exchange Vietnamese Dong outside the country, so convert or spend all your Dong before leaving.
The most convenient and cheapest way to obtain local currency in is via an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). ATMs are now available in most towns and visa cash advances are available in major banks. The use of credit cards is restricted, mainly to major hotels. Foreign currency notes that are old, torn or faded can be very difficult to exchange; clean bills in small denominations are most useful. Traveller's cheques are unacceptable to change. 
 
Tipping:
If you're happy with the services provided a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it's of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Asia destinations. Although can be difficult to source we advise you to carry small notes of local currency each day to make tipping easier. Please note we recommend that any tips are given directly to the intended recipient by a member of your group as our group leaders are prohibited from collecting cash for tips.
 
The following amounts are per person suggestions based on local considerations and feedback from our past travelers:
- Restaurants: Local markets and basic restaurants - round your bill up to the nearest US$1. More up-market restaurants we suggest 10% to 15% of your bill.
- Local guides: Throughout your trip you may at times have a local guide in addition to your tour leader. We suggest US$2-US$3 per day for local guides.
- Drivers: You may have a range of drivers on your trip. Some may be with you for a short journey while others may be with you for several days. We would suggest a higher tip for those more involved with the group, however we suggest US$1-US$2 per day for drivers.
 
Please don't tip with coins, very small denomination notes, or dirty and ripped notes. This is regarded culturally as an insult.
