Laos was once known as “the land of million elephants” with large number of wild and domestic elephants. However the quantity gradually inclined by natural death or by export activities and dangerous work. For that reason, The Elephant Conservation Center (ECC) was established for maintaining a nation-wide elephant conservation program in Laos, which assist elephants all over the country with medical support.

Location
The ECC located in Sayaboury in the western corner of Laos. With just around three hours drive from Luang Prabang, this place is a beautiful tranquil site for both its visitors and resident elephants.
The missions
Through a dedicated team of international conservationists and vets, the center offers free veterinary care services, an emergency unit, a breeding center, a mahout vocational center and the most extensive elephant information center in country. Not just another elephant camp, the ECC provides a global approach to deal with various problems threatening to the existence of elephants in Laos.
Activities at the centre
During your trip in the centre, you will have chance to view elephants bathing, tour the veterinary centre and museum, watch the elephants socialize from the observation tower, go swimming in the lake, view the baby elephant with its mother in a separate area, and have a boat tour of the nearby shoreline. You also have the opportunity to ride the elephants. This will be certainly a highlight.
