1. Luang Prabang
The city of Luang Prabang is an ideal destination for both adults and kids. The must-visit place for the whole family is Kuang Si Waterfall. Members will have great swimming and playing together in the turquoise blue pools and then, relax in the shade created by surrounding big trees. There are bridges and walkways up to the top of the falls allowing you to see streams into the falls. Another attraction for children is seeing several Asian black bears rescued from poachers.
Located in a river valley in Luang Prabang, Elephant Village is a home to some elephants saved from brutal logging work to rest and recover. In this area, the family will have unmissable experiences involving cute elephants such as riding through the jungle, washing in the Nam Khan River or feeding, etc.
Besides, discovering Pak Ou Caves is an interesting activity for your family. At the entrance of the cavern, you will view nice Mekong River sceneries and dramatic limestone cliffs. The interior of the cave, there are a variety of wooden Buddha images in different sizes and styles.
2. Vientiane
To satisfy children’s as well as parents’ curiosity about Lao culture, history and people, Lao National Museum in Vientiane, a typical French colonial architecture is the most suitable choice. The first floor displays ancient artifacts like stone tools, dinosaur bones, pottery fragments, rock paintings and Khmer sculptures. On the second one, visitors will see photographs of guillotines, old prisons and soldiers, and have detailed information about the modern history of Laos from the Siamese invasions to the present day.
Moreover, That Luang, a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the centre of Vientiane is also an attraction for the family journey. The most important Buddhist celebration in Laos is the Boun That Luang Festival with main events held at That Luang. The family can take part in many attractive activities, parades, live music and religious ceremonies taking place three days and three nights.
Many special Hindu sculpture images and animals in Buddha Park surely will draw childen’s attention. Some outstanding ones are a 3-head elephant, a 12-face artistic deity with many hands. All of you can climb up to the top of statues to look the whole park.
3. Vang Vieng
Tham Phu Kham, one of the most beautiful caves in Vang Vieng, is considered sacred by Laotians. The highlight of this place is a large bronze ¬reclining Buddha statue in the main cave. At the bottom of the track to the cave, there is the blue lagoon with crystal clear water. Every member in the family can participate in some interesting games in the cool water such as jumping into the water from a tree, swinging on the rope hanging down from a branch of a tree. Some of other caves suggested are Tham Hoi, Tham Nam, Tham Sang.
More of caves, the temples such as Wat Si Vieng Song, Wat Si Suman, Wat Kang are spiritual spots. Additionally, western villages along Nam Song River are popular stops in the area. The families usually explore these peaceful villages by biking trips. Besides, members have a chance to take a sightseeing to surrounding scenery by hot air balloons.
4. 4000 Islands (Si Phan Don)
The first island the family must visit is Don Khon. Seeing freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins here, one of the rarest species of dolphins will be a big gift for the entire family, especially kids.
On the road to Don Khong Island, you will go through a French bridge, dense forests, traditional villages and lush rice fields. Besides, Tad Somphamit and Khon Phapheng are impressive waterfalls of Si Phan Don. Going to one of these two places, the family can enjoy some activities such as tubing, kayaking, swimming and fishing.
