Tad Lo

01 September 2015
Tad Lo is is a popular 'resort' on the edge of the Boloven Plateau, nestled alongside three rolling cascades, 85 kilometres away via the Salavan Road but most commonly visited on trips based from Pakse. It's a paradise of budget travelers and more and more backpackers are onto this fact, visiting both by motorcycle and public bus. Tad Lo is really a series of three falls -- Tad Suong, Tad Lo and Tad Hang, around which most of the accommodation is grouped, in the village of Ban Saenvang.

The three waterfalls lie within 10km of Tadlo. The first, Tad Hang, is right next to the village on the bridge. There are plenty of safe areas for swimming at the top of the falls and you'll spot a lot of locals fishing in the waters as well. The second one named Tad Lo is about a 1,5km walk upstream. From here, the base of the falls can be reached on foot and you can swim in the massive pool at its base.  The third, Tad Soung, close to Tad Lo, is approximately 10 km away from the main resort area and are the most panoramic falls in the vicinity Tad Lo waterfall can be easily found by following the jungle path on the left hand side of the river. You will hear it before you see it, and there is a home-made set of steps to take you down to the bottom of the waterfall where you can swim.

In Tad Lo, you can ride elephant for one hour in the surroundings of the waterfalls with a fee around 100.000 kip and enjoy elephant bathing around 4:30 pm every evening at the Tad Lo Lodge.

The riverside setting in Tat Lo is the main draw, as is the chance to mingle and interact with Lao villagers in their own environment.  Visiting these villages is like stepping back to medieval times. People are happy and welcoming and intrigued to see you – Just be sensitive as you walk around, and honor their ways.
