The Gibbon Experience is essentially a series of navigable 'ziplines' crossing the canopy of some of Laos' most pristine forest in Huay Xai, home to a number of wildlife animals including the black-crested gibbon. This 4-day 3-night trip in the jungle will be an unforgettable adventure for those who really love animals and prefer adventurous trek.
Few years ago sadly poaching, logging and slash-and-burn farming heavily destroyed primary forest and its inhabitants in South East Asia. But thanks to Animo, a conservation-based tour group with the eco-tourism project of Gibbon Experience, a combination of hardcore conservation and a serious humanitarian effort, the local people has enthusiastically participated in its planning, implementation, and operation. As guides they now make more for their families than in their old predatory days.
This three-day stunning, heart-stopping experience is one of Laos' most incredible adventures which provides extended chance to play Tarzan, two nights sleeping in tree-houses within thickly forested hills and zipping high across valleys on incredible ziplines.
There are classic and waterfall gibbon experiences. While the classic one gives you good chance of hearing the gibbons' incredible calls, participants on the waterfall trek are far less likely to hear it unless making a pre-dawn trek to tree-house 3. However, your chance of seeing gibbons is low, in fact. The trip may involves a lot of trekking, so remember to bring a pair of hiking boots and long socks to deter the ever-persistent leeches; sometimes rain will slow down your journey, just make sure you're following the guides and personally vigilant with the knots in your harness.
Now the experience ultimately highlights your adventure: a magnificent, rustic tree house towering high above the canopy, accessible only by an innovative zip-lines system.
Five tree houses are spaced far from each other, linked by a unique network of cables - each up to 400 meters long and several hundred meters high. The tree houses are set in spectacular natural views. The comfortable, well-designed tree houses are securely anchored and even have water, toilets and showers.
Insects zipping around and rats rustling in the ceilings will be your concern sometimes, but this is the jungle after all. There are also snacks, food and drink available in each tree-house. Keeping anything edible in the provided strong box is essential to avoid the forest rats being attracted.
